| Welcome to BADGIR, an on-line
data archive at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The
archive is a cooperative venture organized by the Center for
Demography of Health and Aging (CDHA) with contributions from
the Center for Demography and Ecology (CDE) and the Data and Information Services Center (DISC). Computing services are provided
by the Social Science Computing Cooperative (SSCC). From this
portal you can browse or search data documentation (e.g.,
metadata, codebooks) and univariate summary statistics (e.g.,
mean, frequency counts). Registered users can also create
cross-tabulations that can be downloaded in MSExcel format,
and perform regression analyses (registration required). Registered
users who are interested in performing more sophisticated
multivariate analyses can create and download customized data
sets that can be imported into a variety of statistical packages
(e.g., SPSS, SAS, STATA).
Our on-line data archive is powered by the Nesstar software
suite. If you are new to Nesstar, or are unfamiliar
with Webview (the new browser interface that allows
you to view data documentation, search for studies and variables
of interest, analyze data, and download data), be sure to
take a look at the Webview
User Guide . New users and users of earlier versions of
NesstarLite will find the information on advanced
search , on search
results and on creating
tables, to be particularly useful.
To register, you will need a working email
address. You will be asked to select a password and to review
and submit a completed data user agreement. For your convenience,
you can complete an on-line registration form by clicking
the 'Register' button below.
You do not need to register if you are interested
only in reviewing research reports or other related publications
rather than analyzing the data yourself.
You can access research reports and related publications
using CDHA's
online annotated bibliography . Additional codebooks,
research reports, and other related publications can be found
in the DISC collection.
Faculty, staff, and students at the University of Wisconsin
- Madison might also search the campus
library system for additional related holdings.
You do not need to register if you are interested
only in reviewing data documentation or univariate statistics,
which you may access through the 'browse' button below.
